FAQs

Sri Lanka is a diverse country with a rich history and culture. There are many things to see and do, from exploring ancient ruins to hiking in the mountains to relaxing on the beach. Here are a few of my recommendations:

  • Visit the ancient city of Anuradhapura, one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the world.
  • Hike to the top of Sigiriya Rock, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
  • Relax on the beaches of the south coast, such as Unawatuna and Mirissa.
  • Go on a safari in Yala National Park, home to elephants, leopards, and other wildlife.
  • Learn to surf in Arugam Bay.
  • Sample the delicious Sri Lankan cuisine.

Sri Lanka has a tropical climate, so there is no bad time to visit. However, the dry season runs from December to April, making it the ideal time to visit for beachgoers and those looking to explore the outdoors. The monsoon season runs from May to October, but it is still possible to visit during this time, especially in the south and west of the country.

There are several ways to get to Sri Lanka. The most popular way is to fly into Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Colombo. There are also direct flights to other airports in Sri Lanka, such as Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) and Trincomalee International Airport (TRC). You can also take a ferry from India or Malaysia.

The currency in Sri Lanka is the Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR). The current exchange rate is approximately LKR 360 to USD 1(2023).

The official language of Sri Lanka is Sinhala. However, English is widely spoken, especially in tourist areas.

Most foreign nationals require a visa to enter Sri Lanka. Depending on your nationality and length of stay, you may need to obtain a Tourist Visa, Business Visa, Transit Visa, or Employment Visa. You can apply for a visa at the nearest Sri Lankan Embassy or High Commission.
